Vadim Konstantinovich Shumsky ( rum. Vadim Şumski ; February 26, 1900 , Chisinau - April 24, 1956 , Timisoara ) - Romanian conductor and composer. Father of Alexander Shumsky .
In the years 1916-1918. He studied at the Kharkov Conservatory , but against the backdrop of revolutionary events in the city, he considered it necessary to return home. For some time he conducted a military band in Chisinau, and in 1922 he settled in Timisoara, where he spent the rest of his life.
He studied composition under the guidance of Sabin Dragoy . He worked as a choir conductor, mainly with Serbian folk groups, in 1931 he headed the Serbian Singing Partnership "Syllable", in the same year went on tour with him to Yugoslavia. Since 1934, he taught music at a public school for the peasants of Banat . In 1944-1947 professor of music at the Timisoara Military School, in 1948-1950 professor of counterpoint at the Timisoara School of Art, from 1950 until the end of her life - at the Timisoara School of Music. At the same time in 1946-1949. led the amateur choir and orchestra of the Timisoara Electromechanical Transport Enterprise, bringing them to the performing level that allowed Beethoven's Fifth Symphony to be played.
He wrote the opera “Master Manole” (according to the legend of the same name ), for the orchestra - two Romanian rhapsodies, Serbian rhapsody, Banat fantasy, symphonic dances and others, a musical picture for a brass band, string quartet and numerous choral compositions, mainly of religious content.
