History
After the start of the Second World War, on September 4, 1939, Argentina declared its neutrality.
Due to the need to increase the production of armaments and other military products in the conditions of aggravating the international situation, by order of the government of the country, on October 8, 1941, the main department of the military industry was created.
After the Japanese attack on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the US’s entry into the war, Argentina’s relations with the United States became complicated due to the unwillingness of the Argentine government to participate in the war as part of the Anti-Hitler coalition , as a result Argentina. These events contributed to the revitalization of Argentina’s efforts to develop its own military industry (DGFM).
After the end of the war, military output was reduced, production facilities were reoriented to the production of civilian goods.
After the signing of the Inter-American Treaty of Mutual Assistance in Rio de Janeiro in 1947, military and military-technical between the United States and Argentina intensified, the production of some American-made weapons and ammunition was mastered in the country.
In the first half of the 1950s, the “Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles” DM “Rosario DGFM” arms factory mastered the production of a constructive counterpart of the American M3A1 submachine gun.
In 1967, DFGM signed an agreement with the Belgian company FN, after which, in 1969, Browning Hi-Power pistols were launched at the Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles DM factory (to replace Colt M1911A1 pistols ).
In December 2016, DGFM signed an agreement with the Italian company Beretta on the production of Beretta Px4 Storm pistols and ARX-200 automatic rifles under license.
