Biography

Born in the family of a shoemaker, early orphaned. Possessing great ability and desire to study, he received a good education at the Latin school in Kulmbach , then at the gymnasium at the Cistercian monastery. From 1590 he worked as a teacher in the families of nobles.

In 1592, thanks to the scholarship of the Ansbach margrave, he entered and studied at the University of Wittenberg . In the same year, he published his first collection of poetry Martinalia & Bacchanalia , which in 1593 earned him the title of poet-laureate.

After graduation, he was left as an alma mater as a professor, in 1595 he received a doctorate in law and became the head of the department of poetics - a position he held until the end of his life. Three times he was elected dean, and in 1608 he was appointed vice-rector of the university. Among his students was Caspar von Barth .

The writer of Latin poems, a humanist of wide knowledge, Friedrich Taubman was distinguished by a sharp mind. His poetic talent and cheerful humor were highly valued and he was invited to Dresden to the court of Saxon Elector Christian II of Saxony , during which he became something of a “learned jester ”, and officially - an entertainment advisor (“table adviser”) and “official parasite ”At the Elector’s table (at that time people were called“ parasites ”by sovereign persons, they were put up at feasts, but for tidbits, the“ parasite ”was obliged to amuse the feast; this happened in two ways: either the parasite threw out any joke, to such prin dlezhal professor Taubman or guests throwing jokes and mocked by a parasite). Errors of his time, he tried to overcome mockery and seriously insisted on a thorough study of the languages and literary heritage of the ancients.

Proof of his aspirations can serve, in addition to "Dissertatio de lingua latina" (Wittenberg, 1602), his publications Plautt (Wittenberg, 1605) and Virgil (Wittenberg, 1609 and 1612).

Taubman - the author of elegant novolatinskih poems ( «Lusus duo juveniles, Martinalia & Bacchanalia», Wittenberg, 1592; «Columbae poeticae, sive carminum variorum », Wittenberg, 1594; «Melodaesia, sive epulum musaeum» , Leipzig, 1597; "The War of Angels" - “Bellum Angelicum” ), was famous for its witty sayings, as well as funny tricks and practical jokes, sometimes quite risky.

A collection of his humorous poems, jokes and aphorisms , as well as anecdotes about him and from the life of students called “Taubmannian” ( “Taubmanniana, oder des sinnreichen Poetens Friedrich Taubmanns nachdenkliches Leben, scharfsinnige Sprüche, i'm looking for hrype, I’ll be in your kind, and I’ll be in charge, I’ll be in charge, I will be in charge of your own, and I will be in charge of you, and I will be in charge of you, and I will be in charge of you, and I will be in charge of you, and I will be in charge. Gedichte etc. ” ) was published in 1702, and then in Frankfurt and Leipzig (1713, edition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the scientist’s death).

Taubman, known for his witticism, was apparently a remarkable person, since several books written in the seventeenth century were devoted to his life ( Caspar von Barth , Glänzende Taubenflügel, das ist, ausführlicher Bericht von dem Leben und Todt Herrn Friedrich Taubmanns von Friedrich Brandt, Copenhagen, 1675) and in the following centuries (A. W. Genthe, Friedrich Taubmann als Mensch und Gelehrter, Leipzig, 1859; Friedrich W. Ebeling, Zur Geschichte der Hofnarren: Friedrich Taubmann, 1884 ; F. Ebert, “The Life and Works of F. Taubman”, 1885; Dieter Münch, “Der humorvolle Poet und Philologe (Friedrich Taubmann”, Bayreuth, 1984).
