Biography

Born in 1892 in the municipality of Foiano della Chiana, Italy. In 1907 he entered the servitude monastery of Monte Senario. In 1908 he took the first monastic vows and in 1918 - eternal vows. He studied theology and philosophy at the Pontifical University of Urbanian in Rome. After the outbreak of World War I, he was sent to the front, where he was seriously wounded in the right hand, after which he was demobilized [1] . September 18, 1919 was ordained a priest. In 1823 he went on a mission to South Africa. For 17 years, he led the Catholic mission of St. Joseph near Manzini, Swaziland. In 1932 he baptized the sister of the Swaziland King Sobusa II [1] .

On March 15, 1939, Pope Pius XII appointed him the Apostolic Vicar of Swaziland and the titular bishop of Tagasta. On April 30, 1939, he was ordained bishop by the titular archbishop of Euchait and the apostolic delegate to Africa, Bernard Adriaan Gijlsvijk, together with the titular bishop of Tuggy Henry Dellal and the titular bishop of Thessey, David O'Leri.

On January 11, 1951, the Apostolic Vicariate of Swaziland was transformed into the diocese of Bremendorp (later the diocese of Manzini) and Costantino Barneski became its first bishop.

In 1959 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire [1] .

Participated in the Second Vatican Council .
