History

Henry Rich was the youngest son of Robert Rich, 1st Earl of Warwick (1559–1619), and Lady Penelope Devere (1563–1607). On March 8, 1623, the title of Baron Kensington was created for Henry Rich in the British Peer system . He married Isabelle Cope (d. 1655), the daughter and sole heiress of Sir Walter Cope (c. 1553-1614), from Cope Castle in Kensington ( Middlesex County ). Henry Rich sat in the House of Commons of England from Leicester (1610-1621), served as captain of the Yemeni Guard (1617-1632), Stalmeister (1628), Lord Lieutenant Berkshire and Middlesex (1628-1643).

His eldest son, Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Holland (c. 1620–1675), in 1673, after the death of his cousin, Charles Rich, 4th Earl of Warwick, inherited the title of 5th Earl of Warwick . He was succeeded by his son from his second marriage, Edward Rich, 6th Earl of Warwick and 3rd Earl of Holland (1673-1701). He was succeeded by his only son, Edward Henry Rich, 7th Earl of Warwick and 4th Earl of Holland (1697-1721). He was succeeded by his cousin, Edward Henry Rich, 8th Earl of Warwick and 5th Earl of Holland (1695-1759), son of Cope Rich and great-grandson of Henry Rich, 1st Earl of Holland. In 1759, after the death of the eighth Earl of Warwick and the fifth Earl of Holland, the count's title faded.

Lady Mary Rich (d. 1666), daughter of Henry Rich, 1st Earl of Holland, married Sir John Campbell, 5th Baronet of Glenorha (1635-1717), who in 1681 received the title of Earl of Bredalbane and Holland ( Partnership Scotland ). In addition, Lady Elizabeth Rich (d. 1725), the only daughter and heiress of 5th Earl of Warwick and 2nd Earl of Holland, married politician Francis Edwards (d. 1725). Their son, William Edwards (1711–1801), inherited rich estates and in 1776 received the title of Baron Kensington in the Peerstvo system of Ireland .

The name "Holland" historically refers to the county of Lincolnshire and is known as " South Holland ", not a province in the Netherlands .
