Story

First episode. Slaves

The beginning of the XIII century . Mongol power continues its expansion to the west. The boy, a Turk of Kipchak origin from the Caspian steppes, was sold by the Mongols into slavery in the Roman Empire ("Byzantium") . There he enters the military school of fencing Anonymous and achieves great success. For this, he receives a new name - Baybars .

At the same time, European crusader knights make their Crusades through the territory of the Roman Empire. However, gradually, instead of the return of the Holy Sepulcher, they are increasingly attracted by the luxurious wealth of the capital of the Romans themselves - Constantinople . Instead of Muslims, the crusaders turn their weapons against their "brothers" - the Romance Christians. The Crusaders end the fourth crusade in 1204 with the conquest of Constantinople and subject the city to merciless ruin. The students of Anonymous, including Beibars , resist the attackers, but the forces are too unequal and they have to flee to Italy in disguise as monks. In place of the Roman Empire, the crusaders create their Latin empire - Romain . Europe is preparing a new crusade for children .

1212 year . In Rome , the crusader children’s campaign intersects with students of the Anonymous school hiding under the monastic robes. Adult crusaders accompanying children force the “monk” of Anonymous to become their guide to the east. The teacher agrees and teaches Baybars to restrain his anger caused by insults from religious fanatics. In the wagon train of one of the crusaders, Beybars meets the impoverished former Byzantine princess Shadiyar , who now serves his Scottish lord. But once between her and Baybars there was mutual sympathy. Defending the honor of the former princess, Baybars periodically has to enter into conflicts and clashes with both the crusaders and the “Saracens” . Finally, after months of wandering in the desert, their own crusaders from another camp, having agreed with the guards, resell all children, “monks” and the princess, into slavery to the Saracens. Wounded Baybars with several of his friends, "monks" falls into the galleys .

Baybars spends ten years as a slave in galleys . The hopeless life of slaves under the deck is controlled by a group of privileged slaves who redistribute the bread received from the owners of the galley not evenly, but supposedly “in fairness”. But as a result of the conspiracy, a group of Baybars friends destroys privileged slaves and takes their place.

The second series. Baybars Mamluk

The owners of the galleys decide to sell a group of slaves led by Baybars. On the island where resale takes place, among the Turkish slaves , Beybars hears a song that he heard from his mother in childhood. Together with his friends, he is bought by the head of the Mamlu warriors of the Misr country of Egypt , Vice-Sultan Kutuz , who recognizes his relative Turk in the Kipchak Beybars. On an island in the middle of the Nile, Kutuz conducts training of mamluk- bakhrita to the heights of martial art. And here again Baybars becomes the first among the best. Under the leadership of Kutuz, he begins to comprehend the wisdom of managing soldiers and the basics of power. At the direction of Kutuz Beibars takes part in suppressing the rebellion of the unfaithful Mameluke Aybek . Then, in 1246 , Kutuz announces to Beibars his intention to make him head of the guard and at the same time his secret spy with the Egyptian Ayyubid Sultan As-Salih .

1249 year . The Crusaders begin their Seventh Crusade in the Middle East. Basically, the army is made up of francs . Europeans are trying to establish an alliance with the Mongol power against Muslims. But the Mamluks of Baybars defeat the Crusaders in the decisive Battle of El Mansour . Among the prisoners, Baybars meets his former teacher Anonymous and other former Byzantine acquaintances. Between Beibars teachers Anonymous and Kutuz there is a philosophical discussion about the nature and role of love in the destiny of man. In the palace of the Sultan of As-Salih, Beybars becomes the head of the personal protection of the Sultan and recognizes the former Byzantine princess Shadiyar in his beloved concubine of the Sultan, whom he defended from the crusaders. Finally, at the direction of Kutuz, Beybars kills the Ayyubid Sultan As-Salih and the Mameluk-bakhrita, led by Kutuz, become the sovereign rulers of the country "Misr" of Egypt . Beibars himself becomes the second most important after the Sultan. At this time, the ambassadors of the Mongolian khan Khulag threatened Kutuz and demanded to take Shadiyar hostage, but the Mamelukes kill the Mongolian ambassadors, making the war between the Mamelukes and the Mongols inevitable.

1260 year . Aspiring to the restoration of the Byzantine Empire, Michael VIII Palaeologist concludes an agreement with the Mongols advancing in the Middle East on their attack on the Mameluk Sultanate of Egypt. And the Mamluk sultan Kutuz, forgetting about his own principles, indulges in entertainments with his beloved concubine Shadiyar at this time. But when the news arrives that the Mongols had already burned Damascus , Kutuz sends Baybars to meet them. The Mongols offer Beibars to surrender without a fight, but he refuses and in the decisive Battle of Ain Jalut the Mamluks, using new powder weapons, stop the Mongols' advance. Shadiyar passes the sign of the sultan power to Beibars, the Mamluks also go to his side from Kutuz. So Baybars becomes the new Mameluk Sultan of Egypt.
