History
In the 1920s , the settlement of Vaivara or Myzakyula was formed on the lands of the nationalized Vaivar Manor [8] . Before World War II, it included 21 farms, the Vaivara 6-grade elementary school, an orphanage , a shop, a hospital and a library; cultural events were held in the People’s House of Peryatsi , as well as in the hall of the orphanage [7] .
Sinimäe settlement was formed in the 1950s on the site of a village completely destroyed during the fierce battles on the Sinimäe Heights in 1944 [3] ; in 1977 it received the status of a village [8] .
From 1949 to 1992, the Sinimäe state farm worked in the village [9] .
The origin of the toponym
The name of the village comes from the natural name - Sinimäe Heights (Blue Mountains) [8] . Before the Second World War, the Sinimäe heights, around which the settlement spread, were covered with a tall spruce , which when viewed from afar gave the hills a blue color . These fir trees died during the battles in 1944.
