History

The group was founded in 1995 by schoolmates Elin Almered and Johan Duncanson, who called the group the same as the gas station, which later became a radio workshop. The workshop was called "Radioavdelningen" (which corresponds to The Radio Department in English ). However, Almered and Duncanson soon stopped playing together and suspended the group. The group was re-founded three years later, in 1998 , when Duncanson began working with Martin Larsson.

In the fall of 2001, bass player Lisa Carlberg, Larson's girlfriend, Per Blomgren, drummer and Daniel Tjader, keyboardist , joined the band. [1] [2]

Later in 2001, the group sent their entries to Sonic magazine. The group received positive reviews. The group records were on a CD that came out with the magazine. Thus, Labrador Records became acquainted with the work of the group. The group signed a contract with the studio. Today Labrador Records is one of the best Swedish indie labels . Per Blumgren left the band before the release of the album Lesser Matters. Lisa Kalrberg left after the release of the mini album This Past Week. According to their website, the group decided to use digital drums and stated that for their new album, "they decided to work in a new direction that does not require a bass player."

The group gained wide acclaim after three tracks (“Pulling Our Weight” from Pulling Our Weight EP, “I Don't Like It Like This” from This Past Week EP and “Keen on Boys” from Lesser Matters), which were used in the soundtrack for the film Sofia Soppola Maria Antoinette .

At the beginning of 2006, Pet Grief's second album was released. The distorted buzz that graced their debut albums has now been replaced with a synthesizer. The album did not receive distribution in the rest of Europe , including Great Britain , until the end of 2006. Due to the small number of tours, there was no hype around the new album. NME rated Pet Grief at 7 out of 10, while other magazines were not so supportive. But Pet Grief has gained popularity among a growing number of fans worldwide thanks to the Internet .

By the end of 2006, the new song “We Made the Team” was released as the 100th release on Labrador. The same song was final on the disc, which Labrador Records released in a selection of one hundred records. Although all but one of the UK tours have been canceled, they believe the band has started work on a new album.

The penultimate album of The Radio Dept. “Lesser Matters” is considered a classic of European pop rock , for which the group received more than 10 prestigious awards, including the NME prize “Best Record of the Year”.

In May 2008, the band released the new EP, Freddie And The Trojan Horse, which included tracks from Freddie And The Trojan Horse, Closing Scene, and The Room, Tarzana. The new LP “Clinging to a Scheme” was released at Labrador Records in 2010.
