Talk in a dream

Talking in a dream or speaking out is a parasomonic disorder characterized by talking out loud during sleep, ranging from simple muttering sounds to loud cries and long, often inarticulate speeches. May occur many times during the sleep cycle.

This can also occur during a sleep paralysis episode, during which words spoken in a dream are pronounced aloud. Depending on the frequency, this may or may not be considered pathological [1] .

Non-agreement in childhood is much more common than in adulthood. Thus, in the category “often or every night”, speaking is found in 5–20% of children and in 1–5% of adults in the general population [2] .

A conversation in a dream itself is usually harmless; however, he can wake others up and make them afraid, especially when the observer misinterprets them as conscious speech. If talking in a dream is emotional or offensive, it can be a sign of another sleep disorder. Speaking can be controlled by a partner or by using a sound recorder; devices that remain inactive until a sound wave is detected are ideal for this purpose. Polysomnography (sleep recording) shows episodes of conversations in a dream that can occur at any stage of sleep [1] . In rare instances, people who suffer from speaking may speak another language. In most cases, this occurs in the language that this person has acquired earlier in his life, although multilingual speech is also possible.
