Biography

Mikhail Makarov was born on March 12, 1962 in Leningrad to a working-class family. He graduated from the 8th grade of secondary school, after which he entered a vocational school and became a member of the Komsomol . After serving in the army after college, he returned to Leningrad and got a job as a roadman at Lengidroenergospetsstroy. Makarov soon married, but his family life was unsuccessful. He lived with his wife's relatives, who constantly reproached him for not being able to get a separate apartment from the management of the company where he worked, calling him a "parasite" and "loser." In his spare time, the future killer was fond of reading detective literature and watching movies on this topic. According to him, he "wanted to experience the same feelings as criminals, murderers and rapists." Makarov often fantasized about how he would kill his wife's parents, but he realized that in this case he would become the first suspect, and did not risk putting his fantasies to life. Makarov explained his intention to start a criminal life with a desire to "get money to buy a cooperative apartment."

In February 1986, Mikhail Makarov attacked a 10-year-old schoolboy. The offender entered the apartment under the pretext of writing a note to the neighbors, struck the child many blows with a screwdriver in the chest and head, and then, having searched the apartment, took all the money and things that seemed valuable to him. The boy pretended to be dead than to save his life, but because of his injuries, he was forever disabled . Before leaving, Makarov put out a cigarette on the victim's body, but he, in spite of severe pain, did not even stir, as a result of which Makarov, finding him dead, quietly left the crime scene.

Makarov committed the first murder on April 7, 1986. His victim was 11-year-old Dasha. The offender raped the girl and struck her at least 30 blows with a sharpened screwdriver, after which he robbed the apartment, stealing money, jewelry and various valuable and low-value things, including children's toys. The next was the murder of a pensioner - a veteran of World War II , a resident of besieged Leningrad . She went to the garbage chute when Makarov was in the stairwell in search of another apartment to commit a crime. The woman, having seen the unfamiliar guy, reproached him - "everyones go here". For this, insulted Makarov dragged her into an apartment and struck him 51 times with a screwdriver, but did not rob the apartment, since, according to him, "there was nothing to profit from."

Just a few weeks Makarov killed 5-year-old Masha. This time the criminal, wanting to direct the investigation along the wrong path, decided to feign the actions of the insane. For this, he made a mess in the apartment and smeared green and mummy on the walls. In addition to money, jewelry and low-value items, the book “A Thousand and One Nights” of the publishing house “Irfon” of Dushanbe city was stolen from the apartment. However, the offender made a major mistake. Usually tracking down children on the street, this time he began to walk around the apartments in search of a suitable victim. Penetrating into one of them under the guise of an employee of the children's library, Makarov saw that the boy’s mother, who opened the door for him, was at home, was frightened and left the apartment, but the woman remembered the suspicious guy well, and soon the police had his identikit .

Arrest, trial and execution

Makarov decided to take the stolen book “A Thousand and One Nights” to a second-hand bookstore, which advertised in the newspaper about buying rare editions of books, but the seller noticed blood on one of the pages, and after Makarov left, he called the police. According to the documents identified the person who brought the book. On the same day, the killer was detained near his apartment when he was returning from the grocery store. After the capture, Makarov immediately confessed to all the crimes - 3 murders and one attempt.

Makarov also showed a basement on the outskirts of Leningrad, in which police officers found a cache with part of the loot. The other part, in his own words, Makarov was selling to passers-by or acquaintances. Some of the things stolen at the crime scene were presented to his wife's parents, after which they lagged behind him for a while with reproaches.

November 27, 1987 Makarov was sentenced to capital punishment - the death penalty by shooting . Soon he wrote a petition for pardon, in which he asked to be sent to Afghanistan in order to “atone for the blood”. The request was denied. In 1988, the sentence was carried out.
