Dario Villanueva Prieto ( Spanish: Darío Villanueva Prieto , b. 1950) - Spanish literary theorist and critic, director of the Royal Academy of Spanish since 2014. Professor of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Santiago de Compostela , where he is a professor of the theory of literature and comparative literature.

Biography
Dario Villanueva was born in Villalbe, spent his childhood in Luarca (Asturias), where his father served as a judge, since 1970, the family of Villanueva moved to La Coruna . He graduated from the University of Santiago de Compostela and the Autonomous University of Madrid . He worked as secretary and then dean of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Santiago de Compostela from 1978 to 1990, from 1994 to 2002 - the rector of this university.
Dario Villanueva was a visiting professor at the Middlebury College School of Spanish ( Vermont , USA ) in 1987; in 1988 and 1993 - at the University of Colorado at Boulder , and in 1989 and 1991 - at the University of Burgundy ( Dijon ). He is a member of the Jaime Quesada Blanco Foundation, established in 2007.
Dario Villanueva has been published in various media for over forty years, in particular as a literary critic in the newspaper El Cultural , as well as in El Mundo . He was elected academician of the Royal Academy of Spanish in 2007, took the chair D. His opening speech, read on June 8, 2008, was devoted to the theme "The Image of Don Quixote in the Cinema". Since December 2009 - Secretary of the Royal Academy, on December 11, 2014, with 28 votes to 5, was elected its director and took office on January 8, 2015 [1] .
He is a member of the International Association of Hispanists ( Spanish Asociación Internacional de Hispanistas ), the Spanish Society of General and Comparative Literature ( Spanish Sociedad Española de Literatura General y Comparada ), of which he is currently the President of the Spanish Association of Literature Theory (ASETEL), which he headed from 1996 to 2001, the Spanish Semiotic Society and the Spanish Association of America of the twentieth century.
Married to Maria Ermitas Penas Varela (currently professor of Spanish literature at the University of Santiago de Compostela). Married to the spouses of Villanueva, two children: daughter Beatrice (born 1978), graduated from the Faculty of Law, specialist in international cooperation in the EU and son Jose Francisco (born 1984), completed a course in business administration [2] .
Dario Villanueva was awarded the Golden Badge , the National Order of Merit of Ecuador (2001), and (2005).
