International Marxist Trend

Ted Grant was for many years the leader of the Militant trend in the Labor Party (PL) before the split in the Committee for the Workers' International in 1992. According to Grant, the exit from the PL meant the loss of many years of patient work, urged his comrades to remain in the organization. Then his supporters were in the minority, and were expelled from the International. Together with Alan Woods, Grant created the Socialist Appeal (Socialist Appeal) magazine in Britain. Grant supporters from other countries established the Committee for the Marxist International in 1992. At the 2006 World Congress, the KMI was renamed the International Marxist Trend ^[1] .

In a number of countries, MMT proponents continue to pursue entrism tactics. In some countries they are members of the communist and social democratic parties as “rooted in the working class”. In Italy and France, it is the Communist Renaissance Party and the French Communist Party . In Pakistan, in the Pakistan People’s Party, the late Benazir Bhutto . In Greece, MMT supporters, united in the “Communist Platform”, reoriented themselves from the Communist Party of Greece to the Coalition of Radical Left , and then to “ National Unity ”. In Russia, the MMT publishes the newspaper “Enemy of Capital” and does not adhere to the tactics of entrism, focusing on independent external agitation ^[2] . In May 2019, the Russian section of the MMT took part in a unification congress with the Revolutionary Workers Party , thus partially overcoming the split that occurred in 2002 ^[3] .

One of the most important international campaigns conducted by the MMT is “Hands Off Venezuela!” (“Hands Off Venezuela!”). Within its framework, in countries where there are MMT supporters, seminars are held to discuss the “ Bolivarian ” transformations being carried out in Venezuela, and the role of these transformations in world processes. Alan Woods , who became the leader and leading theorist of the MMT after the death of Ted Grant, often visits Venezuela, talked with Hugo Chavez there ^[4] . In 2005, his book Venezuelan Revolution - a Marxist Perspective (The Venezuelan Revolution - a Marxist perspective) was published, which analyzes the situation in Venezuela and its prospects.
