Albrecht Werner Hofmann (born March 11, 1939, Zeitz , Germany) is a German geochemist, researcher of the evolution of the Earth’s internal structure [1] . Emerit in Mainz and visiting scientist USA], foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (1999) and the Royal Society of London (2018) [2] .

Biography
He studied geology and geochemistry at universities in the USA (Duke University, 1958–59; Brown University, 1962–68) and Germany (University of Freiburg, 1959–62), received master's degrees in science (1965) and a doctor of philosophy in geochemistry (1968). In 1968–70 - assistant laboratory in Heidelberg. In 1970–72 - Fello-postdoc in the laboratory of the Carnegie Institute in Washington, then his research assistant in 1972–80. In 1980-2007 Director of the newly created Department of Geochemistry in Mainz and in 1989–91 and 98–2000. - Managing Director of this institute. Since 1987 - Associate Professor at the University of Mainz. Co-organizer of two Goldschmidt conferences - in 1996 and 2006. Fello American Geophysical Union (1994), (1996), Geochemical Society (1996), Geological Society of America (1999).
Married, two children.
