Arvo Ylppö ( Fin. Arvo Ylppö ; October 27, 1887 , Akaa , the Grand Duchy of Finland - January 28, 1992 , Helsinki , Finland ) is a Finnish pediatrician who significantly reduced infant mortality in Finland in the 20th century . It is considered the creator of the system of public children's clinics in Finland, for about 40 years he held the position of archiatra .

Biography
Born October 27, 1887 in Akaa in a family of farmers. Most likely he was born prematurely and was a short man. In 1906 he entered the Imperial Alexander University in the pediatric faculty. In 1912 he moved to the German Empire , where he went to work at the Imperial Children's Hospital in Berlin , and in 1913 wrote a dissertation on the metabolism of bilirubin in children. Being in the German Empire, Arvo Yulppe concentrated on the research of pediatric pathological anatomy and gained international recognition. Thanks to his work in medicine, progress has been made associated with a decrease in the death rate of premature babies [3] .
In 1920 he returned to Finland and became a teacher at the University of Helsinki Central Hospital . In 1925 he became a professor of pediatrics and continued his research, published in medical journals about childcare. He supported a program to strengthen the training of Finnish nurses, develop the pharmaceutical industry and increase the level of public awareness about medicine. From 1920 to 1963 he was the chief doctor of the Children's Castle Hospital (Lastenlinna), and also worked in private medical practice in Helsinki. In 1957 he retired, but continued to sponsor medical initiatives for the care of children. He died in January 1992 at the age of 104, and was buried in the Hietaniemi cemetery in Helsinki [4] [5] .
In 2004, pediatrician Arvo Ylppö ranked sixth in a competition program organized by the national Finnish broadcaster Yle . The aim of the program was to determine with the help of universal suffrage the greatest people in the history of Finland .
