Biography
The son of a baker, raised in a family of Christian Arabs. He studied at a Jesuit monastery school in Lebanon , graduated from the University of Damascus, and received a degree in chemistry. In 1965, he began to write prose in Arabic. In 1971 he moved to Heidelberg , earned his studies as a guest worker , worked in a factory, restaurant, construction site, etc. He began to learn German. In 1979 he received a doctorate in chemistry, began to work in the chemical industry. Founder of the literary group South Wind ( German Südwind ) and the PoLiKunst movement (Polynational literary and artistic community). After 1982, he is engaged only in literature, writes in German, acts as an active literary organizer. Lives with his family in the south-west of Germany in the city of Kirchheimbolanden .
Creativity
One of the largest representatives of the so-called. “Migrant workers” or “literature of migrants” (in Germany since the 1960s, a government policy has been pursued to attract labor migrants from the Mediterranean countries and from the late 1970s there are German-Greek, German-Turkish, German-Italian, German-Arabic and other transnational literature , publishers, press and audiovisual media).
