Silver medalist of the Finnish championship in 1948 ( A. Niemel won became the champion).
As part of the Finnish national team, he participated in the Nordic team tournament in 1948 in Saltshobaden (he defeated the Norwegian L. Storm Kherset , tied with the Danes N. Lie and the Swede G. Skarp ).
