Ashen is an action / RPG computer game developed by the New Zealand studio A44 and released by Annapurna Interactive for Windows and Xbox One on December 7, 2018. The action of Ashen takes place in a fantasy world devoid of the sun - with the death of a divine bird called Ash World, it plunged into darkness, but later the light returned, meaning that Ash was reborn. A player-driven character travels the open world in search of Ashen [1] . The player is also invited to gradually develop a settlement where the character returns regularly - from a modest campground to a thriving town [1] . Companions accompany the game character traveling — both AI-controlled non-game characters and other players connecting to the game online; while there is no opportunity to communicate with the satellite - the player can only guess from the changes in the satellite’s behavior that another living person helps him, and not the program [2] . Observers pointed to a noticeable similarity of the game with the Souls series , down to individual gameplay mechanics, while stipulating that Ashen is not a complete imitation and the game still has its own personality. The atmosphere of the game, honestly complex battles, a settlement development system and a cooperative game that encourages non-verbal communication between players were given special praise.
