Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler - Japanese role-playing game , developed jointly by Japanese companies Square Enix and Acquire and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch console in 2018 . In 2019, the game was released for Microsoft Windows . The development of the game was financed from the developers' own funds and from the funds raised through crowdfunding through the Kickstarter site. Octopath Traveler is notable primarily for its unusual graphic design, described by developers as “HD-2D”: it combines two - dimensional sprite images of characters and objects, made in the spirit of games of the SNES era, with three-dimensional decorations and modern graphic effects.

Octopath Traveler offers the player the role of one of eight characters to choose from - these characters begin their journey in different parts of one common world and have different characteristics and abilities, including influencing their interaction with non-player characters. The game developers called it the ideological heir of the game Final Fantasy VI ( 1994 ) ^{[2] [3]} . The game received mostly high marks from the press - commentators praised the unusual graphics and turn-based battles, but criticized the weak plot and the lack of interaction between the game characters.
