The Capdepera Treaty was signed between King of Aragon Jaime I and Abu Abdullah Muhammad, Muslim Kadi on the island of Menorca , June 17, 1231 . The contract was signed at Capdeper Castle , which was known as Torre den Nunis. The treaty allowed the island of Menorca to remain under Muslim rule, while remaining subject to the King of Aragon by paying tribute.
Having conquered Mallorca, Jaime I decided not to invade the neighboring island, because he needed the strength to conquer Valencia . So he resorted to a trick. He ordered that huge bonfires be seen in the city that could be seen from Menorca, so that the Muslims who lived there thought that a Great Army had gathered there, ready for the invasion. The committee responsible for the negotiating trip to Menorca was formed by the Templar master Fry Ramon de Serra, Knight Bernardo de Santa Eugenia and Lord Sangarren . [one]
