Biography
Patrick Holohan was born on May 3, 1988 in Dublin , Ireland . He trained in the SBG Ireland hall, practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu , receiving a brown belt in this discipline.
Beginning of a professional career
He made his debut in mixed martial arts on a professional level in July 2007, made his opponent give up with the help of the “ triangle ”. He fought in small Irish promotions - he came out victorious from almost all fights (in only one case there was a draw). One of the most significant victories in this period was the victory by surrender to Lithuanian sambo fighter Artemy Sitenkov at the Cage Contender tournament in Dublin.
The Ultimate Fighter
With nine victories on the track record without a single defeat, in 2013 Kholohan was among the participants in the 18th season of the popular fighting reality show The Ultimate Fighter . However, in the first qualifying match, he lost the decision of the majority of judges to Josh Hill and dropped out of the show [1] .
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Despite the early loss at TUF, Patrick Holohan still got the opportunity to sign a contract with the world's largest fighting organization Ultimate Fighting Championship . He made his debut in the UFC octagon in July 2014 - he met with American Josh Sampo and in the first round forced him to surrender with the help of a strangulation from behind [2] .
Next, he was supposed to go into a cage against Luis Godino , but he was injured and was replaced by the organization’s newcomer Chris Kelades . The confrontation between them lasted all the allotted three rounds, as a result, the judges unanimously gave the victory to Kelades, and Kholohan thus suffered the first defeat in his professional career. At the same time, both fighters earned a bonus for the best fight of the evening [3] .
In 2015, Kholohan defeated Shane Howell and Vaughn Lee on points, then lost in the main fight of the evening to Louis Smolka [4] .
A fight with Willie Gates was planned for May 2016, but in April Kholohan unexpectedly announced the end of his sports career, noting that he was diagnosed with a rare blood disease [5] .
