Biography
According to V.N. Tatishchev , in the early 1060s Rostislav Vladimirovich married the daughter of the Hungarian king (probably Lanka, the daughter of King Bela I ) [1] . Other sources do not confirm or deny this information. If this is true, then, considering that Rostislav died at the beginning of 1067, Volodar was born in the first half of the 1060s.
Upon the death of his father in 1067, together with the brothers Rurik and Cornflower, he was expelled from Tmutarakan. He lived in Vladimir-Volyn at the court of his great-uncle, Yaropolk Izyaslavich . Together with his brothers, he fled from him and seized lands in the Carpathian region . In 1086, Yaropolk, who had allied with Vsevolod Yaroslavich of Kiev , was killed during a campaign against the Rostislavich [2] .
Lyubechsky congress of 1097 secured for Volodar Peremyshl. By 1099, a new attempt by the Kiev princes ( Svyatopolk Izyaslavich ) to establish control over the southwestern Russian lands, but Volodar and his brother triumphed on Rozhnoe field, and then, during the invasion of the Hungarians, Volodar defeated Przemysl (the Hungarians were defeated by his allies: Davyd Igorevich and Polovtsy in the battle on Vagra ).
In 1117, Volodar and Vasilko fought in alliance with Vladimir Monomakh and Davyd Svyatoslavich against Yaroslav Svyatopolchich . Allies laid siege to Vladimir-Volyn and forced the prince to surrender.
In 1119, Volodar participated together with the Hungarians in the march on Byzantium and returned with rich booty.
In 1122, Volodar went to war against the Poles, ruined many areas, took a lot of booty, but because of the betrayal of his governor Petron was in Polish captivity. Vasilka had to collect a large ransom in 2000 hryvnia of silver in order to ransom his brother from captivity.
In 1123, Volodar and his brother, Hungarians, Poles and Czechs took the side of Yaroslav Svyatopolchich and besieged Andrei Vladimirovich in Vladimir-Volynsky. After the death of Yaroslav the Allies lifted the siege.
He was buried in the Cathedral he built. John in Przemysl Detinets .
