Meat tax

Meat tax is a hypothetical tax on meat products or other livestock products. It is proposed for the introduction of health considerations [1] , the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere, as well as for humanitarian reasons [2] .

The Royal Institute of International Relations and the University of Glasgow, in a 2015 report entitled “Changing Climate, Changing Diets: Ways to Reduce Meat Consumption,” called for a red meat tax [3] [4] [5] [6] .

Adam Briggs of the University of Oxford conducted a study in which he concluded that a tax on high-carbon products could have a positive effect on both the environment and the health of the British [3] [7] . William Ripple proposed increasing meat prices through taxes or quotas for greenhouse gas emissions [8] [9] . Marco Springmann of the University of Oxford's Future Food Program also proposed introducing a tax on meat and dairy products [10] .

PETA also calls for a meat tax [11] . The Danish Ethics Council [12] called for a meat tax in Denmark [13] . In 2017, the Livestock Organization ( FAIRR ) reported that meat taxes are becoming more likely [14] .

In November 2018, an expert council under the Russian government proposed introducing a tax on “sausages, sausages and bacon” as increasing the risk of cancer [15] . The proposal was supported by the Ministry of Health .
