Biography

He taught, was an inspector of elementary schools, professor of history and philosophy of the University of Rennes .

An ardent follower of Christian socialism , the teachings of Philip Buches , who sought to combine Catholic doctrines with democratic ones. For some time he participated in the development of the parliamentary history of the French revolution of Bouchez. Together with him he published: “Histoire parlementaire de la Révolution française, ou Journal des assemblées nationales depuis 1789 jusqu'en 1815” (The Parliamentary History of the French Revolution, 40 volumes, Paris, 1833–38), a rich and important collection of materials for the history of the French Revolution, a set of which is made from a republican point of view.

At the European Congress convened by the historical institute in 1833, he defended Bueshez's neo-Catholicism against the attacks of followers of Charles Fourier with great force.

Soon P. Ru-Lavergne returned to orthodox Catholicism .

In 1848-1849 he was a deputy of the constituent assembly, where he defended the reactionary policies of Louis Bonaparte and approved the expedition against the Roman Republic. Not being elected to the Legislative Assembly, he became an extreme ultramontanist , accepted the priesthood, and taught theology in Nimes.
