Shamiram Party

“Shamiram” party is a political party of women of Armenia that existed in the 1990s.

It was founded in 1995 before the parliamentary elections . In fact, it was a "systemic opposition" under the control of the authorities, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia Vano Siradeghyan became the shadow curator of the party. The party’s election list included mainly women known in the republic - cultural activists, as well as spouses of current statesmen.

In the 1995 elections, the party won 17.4% of the vote on party lists, sensationally taking second place, and received 8 seats.

The faction and parties included:

  • Kazhoyan, Juliet Surenovna
  • Matevosyan, Shoger Grantovna
  • Petrosyan, Amalia Arshakovna
  • Arevshatyan, Zaruhi Rubenovna
  • Bakunts, Angela Surenovna
  • Togoshvili, Nana Georgievna
  • Sargsyan, Nadezhda Vigenovna
  • Sarukhanyan, Gayane Zhoraevna

In 1999, the party also participated in the elections , but took the last place with 0.2% of the vote and did not receive a single mandate.

After Robert Kocharian came to power, part of the party supported the new president, some were in opposition to him.

It ceased to exist in 2008.
