Biography
The representative of the Scottish clan Dunbar . The eldest son and successor to Walteof, Count Lothian (Dunbar) in 1166-1182.
In 1182, after the death of his father Waltheof, Patrick I inherited the titles of Count Dunbar and Lod Binley.
Patrick I, Earl of Dunbar, was one of the largest Scottish magnates in the reign of Kings Wilhelm Leo and Alexander II . Count Dunbar often witnessed their letters and accompanied the monarchs during their visits, he was surrounded by kings when they went to England to bring homage to the king of England.
From 1195 to 1205, Patrick I, Earl of Dunbar, held the position of Justiciar Lothian , and was also the keeper of the castle Berik-on-Touid . Like his predecessors, who came from a kind of English earls of Northumbria , Patrick, Earl of Dunbar, owned large estates in northern England. Count Dunbar was in close contact with the King of Scotland, Alexander II , who claimed to Northumberland County. His father, Waltheof, was temporarily deprived of part of his possessions in England by King John of the Landless .
Patrick I, Earl of Dunbar, passed away on December 31, 1232 . He was buried in the Cistercian monastery in Elks (Berikshire) .
Count Dunbar was married twice. His first wife was Ada (c. 1174–1200), the illegitimate daughter of King William the Lion of Scotland, of whom he had four sons and a daughter:

The second time Patrick married Christine, widow of William de Bruce, 3rd Lord Annandale (d. 1212). The second marriage was childless.
