March Referenda
In March, voting was held on five proposals [1] :
- People’s initiative “six weeks vacation for everyone”.
- People’s initiative “the end of the unlimited construction of second houses” with a quota of 20% for each municipality [2] .
- People’s initiative "for tax support for the construction of public savings for the purchase of living space for their own use and for financing energy conservation and environmental measures."
- Voting for the return of the “Book Fixed Price Agreement Agreement”.
- Voting for the introduction in the Constitution of the provision on the use of funds received from gaming establishments for public needs.

June Referenda
In June, three referenda were held:
- Should referenda be held on all international agreements adopted by the federal government?
- The health referendum decided to approve the managed health law proposed by the federal government.
- The issue of help with savings for home buyers [3] .
All three referenda were rejected.

September referendums
Three referendums were held on September 23: on the prohibition of smoking, on the safety of home ownership in old age, and on the teaching of music in schools [4] .
- The People’s Smoking Ban Initiative, proposed by the Pulmonary League, called for a clear and universal national ban and the destruction of smoking rooms and smoking establishments that were still permitted in some cantons. Odanako initiative was rejected by 66% of the vote.
- The proposal for the security of home ownership in old age allowed retired homeowners to receive lower real estate ratings by forgiving property tax debts. The proposal was rejected by 52.6% of the vote.
- The proposal for music education required federal and cantonal governments to stimulate music lessons for children. However, the federal government stated that it was contrary to cantonal sovereignty in education. As a result, the counter proposal was debated and approved by 72.7% of the vote.

The last referendum of 2012 was held on November 25. It concerned the Swiss Act on Animal Diseases [5] . The act was approved by 68% of the vote.
