The Brittany Symphony Orchestra ( fr. Orchestre symphonique de Bretagne ), until 2012 The Brittany Orchestra is a French symphony orchestra based in Rennes . It was founded in 1989 on the basis of the Rennes Orchestra in force since 1981.
The orchestra along with symphony concerts in various cities of Brittany provides the work of the Rennes Opera. In the repertoire of the orchestra, along with the standard repertoire (especially Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann), composers who are biographically and creatively associated with the region occupy a large place - including Paul Le Flem , Guy Ropartz , Jean Kras . After the reform of the orchestra in 2012, a significant part of the program is based on dialogue with non-academic music - in particular, Jane Birkin performed the orchestra performing songs by Serge Gainsbourg , the repertoire included jazz compositions by Dave Brubeck , etc. As resident composers worked with the orchestra Eric Tanguy , Thierry Eskesh , Philip Ersan . In 2001, the Brittany Orchestra toured the United States for the first time. Since 2014, its own sound recording program has been operating.
