Biography
Born April 29, 1947 in Derby . He studied at the Technical College of Derby, then - at the University of Hull , graduated with honors in 1969.
Since 1971, Christopher has been married to Marilyn Shepherd.
Since 1972, Humphreys worked as an assistant curator in the botanical department of the British Museum . Subsequently, he headed the European Herbarium of the Museum, the General Herbarium, since 1997 - the Department for the Study of Flowering Plants.
In 1973, at the University of Reading, Humphreys defended his Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Prof. Vernon Heywood, in which he examined the diversity and systematics of the Compositae Macaronesia Argyhemhemum . Subsequently engaged in research biogeography of the genus Nothofagus .
Member of the London Linnaean Society , in 1996-1997 - Vice President. He taught a course of cladistics in the British Museum, and lectured at the University of Reading in the rank of visiting professor. In 2001 he was awarded the Linnea Medal .
Author of several popular science determinants of the UK flora.
In 2007, he retired due to deteriorating health. He died on July 31, 2009 .
