Biography
As a grandson of John Dustin Archbold, he was a wealthy man. He studied at private schools, attended courses at Columbia University, but did not finish it. He sponsored a number of biological expeditions to New Guinea in the interests of the American Museum of Natural History , in some of which he took part. Then he founded a biological station in Florida, where he spent the last years of his life. He was also a member of an expedition to Madagascar led by Jean Delacour , during which he learned about the death of his father and met Austin Rand , who then remained Richard's whole life, and in 1939 made a pioneer flight from this country through the Indian Ocean in the interests of the Australian government and Africa to New York.
