Biography
Leon Blumenstock was born on March 11, 1838 in the city of Krakow . He graduated from high school and university in his hometown , receiving a diploma in medicine at the Jagiellonian University in 1862 and a doctorate in obstetrics at the University of Vienna [2] .
Upon graduation, Blumenstock devoted himself to scientific work. Since 1864, he took the place of assistant professor in forensic medicine at the alma mater , five years later he was appointed extraordinary professor at the Faculty of Law in Krakow; and in 1881 he was transferred to the medical faculty of the Jagiellonian University [2] .
In 1891, Leon Blumenstock was elevated to the nobility and received the title von Halban [2] .
For twenty years, Blumenstock was the editor of the Polish medical weekly magazine [3] ; he wrote a large number of articles and individual books in German ; some of his works in forensic medicine are considered classical [2] .
Blumenstock was a member of the Krakow Academy of Sciences and the Poznan Society of Science Lovers [2] .
Leon Blumenstock-Halban died on March 1, 1897 in his hometown and was buried in the Rakovitsky cemetery .
The merits of the scientist were awarded the Order of the Iron Crown .
His son Alfred Halban (1865-1926, Lviv) became a historian of law and a politician; was elected to the Austrian parliament [4] .
