Pujanga Baru ( indon. Pujangga Baru ; “The New Writer”) - in Indonesian literature, a group of writers and poets, united around the magazine “Pujanga Baru” (published in 1933-1942, 1948-1953).
She played a large role in the formation of modern Indonesian literature. Founders: Amir Khamzakh , Armain Pan (secretary of the magazine), Sutan Takdir Alishakhban (editor of the journal). At different times, Sanusi Panet, Khairil Anwar , Asrul Sani and others adjoined them [1]
The writers grouped around the magazine were carriers of nationalist ideas of various shades. They were champions of the unity of the country, advocated for economic progress, for a new culture, the formation of which, however, was understood differently. Some believed that the spiritual culture of the East is more favorable soil than the “materialistic culture of the West (Amir Khamzakh, Mohammad Amir), others denied the importance of traditions, advocated the active assimilation of the culture of the West (Sutan Takdir Alishahban). Still others (Sanusi Pani) spoke of the need the synthesis of “materialism, individualism and intellectualism” of the West with “spiritual wealth, contemplation and a sense of collectivism” of the East [2] . However, the first task, and everyone agreed on this, was to update the language [3 ] .
