Biography
Born October 16, 1866 in the family of a priest.
After graduating from the Smolensk Theological Seminary in 1887, he entered the Moscow Theological Academy, which he graduated in 1891 with a candidate of theology degree .
In September of the same year, he was appointed teacher at the Smolensk Women's Diocesan School.
In 1894, he was ordained a priest , appointed the legal teacher of the male gymnasium in Yegoryevsk, Ryazan province. From 1903 he taught the Law of God in the Egoryevsk women's gymnasium.
In 1903, widowed. In 1904 he was tonsured a monk with the name of Dositheus . From July of the same year he served at the Ryazan bishop's house. In October, he was appointed caretaker of the Ranenburg Theological School (Ryazan Province).
In March 1905, he was transferred by an inspector to the Novgorod Theological Seminary .
In April 1906 he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite and appointed rector of the Smolensk Theological Seminary.
January 18, 1909 in the Saratov Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was consecrated bishop of Volsky , vicar of the Saratov diocese .
In 1913, he temporarily ruled the Ufa diocese .
On August 14, 1917, he was elected diocesan assembly by the ruling bishop of the Saratov and Tsaritsyno dioceses , receiving 248 of the 277 votes of delegates. On August 25, his election was approved by the Synod.
Member of the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church 1917-1918 .
Since October 4, 1918, in connection with the formation of the Tsaritsyno diocese, he was called bishop of Saratov and Petrovsky.
In 1920 he was elevated to the rank of archbishop . He enjoyed the respect of believers of Saratov .
In 1919 he was imprisoned for 4 months in a Saratov prison as a hostage.
He spoke out against the update. According to the recollections of the parishioners of the Duchososhestvensky cathedral, at the beginning of the service, held by renovation priests, Archbishop Dositheus, who was praying in one of its chapels, left the church. After him, most parishioners left.
In April 1922, he was arrested in a group case of the “Saratov churchmen” for refusing to obey the renovation of the Supreme Church Administration . Initially, he was under house arrest in the bishop's house, in June he was transferred to a Saratov prison. In February 1923 he was involved as a witness in the case of Patriarch Tikhon . In the same year, he was condemned by the Saratov Province Revolutionary Tribunal for 5 years in prison. He served time in the Butyrskaya prison in Moscow and in the Tomsk district . In conclusion, did not lose his fortitude.
Released early. March 6, 1926 returned to the management of the diocese.
In early 1927, mentioned in the dignity of the archbishop . In February of the same year he was sentenced to three years of exile.
On October 27, 1927, he was dismissed to rest, among other bishops who were imprisoned and exiled.
In January 1929, he was in Pokrovsk .
In 1930, he settled in Saratov in the house of Metropolitan Seraphim (Aleksandrov) . In recent years, he lived in great poverty and was forced to beg for money along with beggars in the cathedral.
He died on March 25 [1] 1942 in Saratov. He was buried at the Resurrection Cemetery . There have been cases of the grace of God's help after a prayer at the tomb of Archbishop Dosifei.
