League Gaushu

Ligue Gaucu ( port.-Brazil. Campeonato Gaúcho de Futebol ) - football championship of the state of Rio Grande do Sul ( Brazil ). The Gaucho League is held under the auspices of the Gaucho Football Federation (FGF) ( Brazilian port. Federação Gaúcha de Futebol ).

According to the CBF rating, the Gaucho League is second only to the League of Paulista and the League of Carioke in Brazil and is included in the elite four leagues of Brazil (along with the League of Mineiro ).

In the First (or Highest) Division port.-braz. Primeira Divisão ) are 16 teams, divided into two groups.

Throughout history, there have been two distinctive club leaders in the League: Internacional and Gremio .

In the years 1919-1929, amateur semi-official championships were held in the state. Their results, however, are still taken into account among the achievements of the clubs that became champions.

Official championships began to be held since 1930 .

Since 1942, the state began to hold competitions among professional clubs. From this moment begins the total dominance of two titans from Porto Alegre - "Inter" and "Gremio".

Meaning of the word Gauchu

The word "Gaucho" means belonging to the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This word in Brazil means everything that is produced in this state ( adjective ), as well as people who come from this state ( noun ). The most striking examples are the midfielder of Gremio, Flamengo and the Brazilian national team in the 1980s, Renato Gaucho , as well as the midfielder of Gremio, PSG , Barcelona , Milan and the Brazilian national team in the 1990-2000s, Ronaldinho Gauchu .
