The symbol P here is taken from the English translation of the word “phonogram” ( English p honogram ) .
In the USA, legal protection of related rights is denoted by three elements [1] :
- symbol ℗,
- the year of the first publication of the recording,
- Record Owner ID.
The symbol was first introduced in Europe in the mid-1960s and has been used as a symbol for protecting copyright in the United States since 1971. .
The use of the symbol is regulated in paragraph 402 of the 17th section of the United States Code [2] , as well as in the Geneva Convention on phonograms [3] .
Encoding
Unicode U + 2117 ℗ sound recording copyright also has alternative titles published (from English - “published”) and phonorecord sign (from English - “phonogram symbol”) [4] . Externally, the symbol is similar to the U + 24C5 Ⓟ circled latin capital letter p [5] and U + 24DF ⓟ circled latin small letter p [5] signs from the Framed letters and numbers section intended for use as list markers.
