Description

The author of the idea to create this alley is the mayor of Brest, Alexander Sergeevich Palyshenkov . No budget funds were spent on the implementation of this project. Instead, information about the project spread to business circles, where it quickly found a response. As a result, the "first stage" of the alley included 30 lights.

The initiator of the installation of the alley was the famous Brest sculptor and blacksmith Alexander Chumakov. About a third of all the lights he made. Each lantern in the alley is a separate art object with its own idea and idea, most of which outwardly reflect the type of activity of enterprises that have invested money in their manufacture. Here you can see: individual sculptures of a firefighter, merchant, blacksmith, shoe shine, as well as a lantern with a globe, a still life and so on.

Five-pointed stars are located at the foot of the forged figures, on which are engraved the names of enterprises that have invested money in the manufacture of lamps and their installation.

Since the Alley is located on Gogol Street, there are also “literary” lanterns dedicated to the work of the Russian prose writer Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol : “Which Russian does not like fast driving”, “Dead souls. Volume Two ”,“ Nose ”,“ Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka ”. For this reason, locals call the "literary" avenue.

The first lantern is considered to be a lantern opened by the Ministry of Emergencies on July 25, 2013 on the Day of the Fire Service of the Republic of Belarus. At the moment, the alley has 41 forged metal lanterns. It is anticipated that other various thematic forged products will appear along the entire length of the street.

Lanterns have long been a distinctive feature of Brest . On the central pedestrian street of Sovetskaya - the historical part of the city - there has long been a ritual of lighting lanterns with a real lantern. His task is to light 17 kerosene lamps every night. One of the distinguishing features of this street is a bat with a lantern in its claws - a symbol that darkness will never come in Brest.
