Hijacking a Boeing 737 in Mogadishu
Gabriela’s first job was a flight attendant at Lufthansa . On October 13, 1977, she was part of the crew aboard the Boeing 737 Landshut , when during a passenger flight from the Balearic Islands to Frankfurt he was captured by four terrorists from the PFLP , who then demanded in exchange for hostages to release members of the PFLP and RAF groups from prison . This capture lasted almost five days and became a serious test for everyone on board. The 23-year-old Gabriela Dilman was the youngest of the crew, but, according to the recollections of passengers, she communicated most actively with passengers, helping them mentally cope with the situation, as well as mediating between them and the terrorists. During an intermediate landing in Aden, the head of a group of invaders killed the crew commander, after which the body of the latter was left lying in the cabin so that those going to the toilet had to step over it [1] .
After landing in Mogadishu, the terrorists suspended the second pilot, saying that they no longer intend to fly anywhere, and the negotiations were now entrusted to the young Gabriele on behalf of the crew, threatening that if their demands were not met that night, they would blow up the plane. However, shortly before the expiration of the ultimatum, the airliner was stormed by a group of German special forces , as a result of which three out of four terrorists were killed and all the hostages on board were saved [1] .
Subsequently, this hijacking was twice filmed: in the documentary film "The Deadly Game" 1997 and the thriller " Mogadishu " in 2008. The role of Gabriela Dilman in them was played respectively by Susanne Schaefer and Nadia Ul .
After the events in Somalia, the press began to praise the young stewardess, even calling her an Angel from Mogadishu ( German: Engel von Mogadischu ) [2] , and only a couple of days later, on October 20, 1977, Gabriela Dilman became a holder of the Order of Merit for the Federal Republic of Germany . At the same time, for Dilman herself, the incident was so shocking that she decided to permanently leave the aircraft [1] .
Also, after the terrorist attack, Gabriela Dilman married her fiancé, Rüdiger von Lutzau ( German Rüdiger von Lutzau ), a Lufthansa pilot who was also part of the crew of the aircraft on which a group of German special forces arrived in Mogadishu [2] . It can be separately noted that Rüdiger von Lutzau himself has Russian roots , since the surname “Lutzau” comes from the Russian Empire [3] [4] .
Artist career
