Facts
- The idea of the film originated in the early 1990s. Then Rezo Gabriadze made sketches of heroes, and Levan recorded on camera stories told by his father. They returned to the idea when Levan was already working as a director at the Bazelevs studio. Together with the editor Maria Likhachova, they "folded" the whole story from oral stories. Rezo Gabriadze painted all the characters and scenery, which were then painted and animated [3] .
- The film is made in a mixed technique of hand-drawn animation and computer re-laying (also known as the flat puppet method, when the character is divided into parts and motion is removed by frame, shifting parts of the body / props) using video sequences with Rezo Gabriadze [4] .
- In the film, the offscreen laughter recorded during test views is often heard. He could not “clean” from the sound track and decided to leave [3] .
- The first work in the movie Rezo Gabriadze since the Soviet-French production of " Passport ".
- The main musical theme of the film was composed and performed by the composer Oleg Karpachev. The film also sounds classical music, folk songs and melodies [5] .

Criticism
“Seeing“ You Know, Mom, Where I Was “, you leave the cinema, wanting to give the film all the prizes of the world. And the next thought: it is impossible to describe the film. Like a flower, like Besamemucho (you can hum and you can't tell). And instead of telling me about the movie, you try to explain why this is impossible. ” Alexander Minkin [9]
“Surprisingly, Rezo's stories are easily transferred to that childhood, which the viewer simply could not have - and yet it feels like one’s own. Just for the sake of this feeling, it’s already worth seeing “You know, mom, where have I been?”: The chance to return to childhood is not given every day, much less to experience it in such bright colors. ” Sergey Sergienko [10]
“Watching the movie does not take you much time, minus the final credits, timekeeping does not even reach an hour, but the open world, built from sketches made by Rezo Gabriadze himself, will sit down inside you for a long time, there’s nothing to compare the unusual graphic technique of the main character , and it is impossible to confuse with others. ” Evgeny Ukhov [11]
