Mate Asher ( Hebrew מטה אשר ) is a regional council in northern Israel , in the mountains of Western Galilee, named for the tribe that lived in the area in ancient times. The Administrative Regional Council belongs to the Northern District of Israel .

History
The Regional Council was created in 1982 by combining three regional councils - the Gaaton Regional Council, the Naaman Regional Council and the Sulam Zur Regional Council. The council covers an area of about 212 hectares, with a population of about 30 thousand people. Kibbutz residents make up about 54% of the total population of the council, there are also two villages of national minorities (Bedouin Arab al-Aramsche and Arab Sheikh Danun ).
Population
According to statistics from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Israel, the population of the regional council for 2018 is 28,700 people [1] .
Geography
The Council is located along the border between Israel and Lebanon and is limited to the following administrative units:
- From the north: the border between Israel and Lebanon and Shlomi
- From the East: Maale Yosef Regional Council, Mizgav and Kafr Yasif Regional Council
- From the South: Zvulun and Kriot Regional Council
- From the west: the Mediterranean Sea , the cities of Nahariya , Acre and Kriot
