The 1981 Canadian Curling Championship for Men ( Eng. 1981 Labatt Brier ) was held in Halifax ( Nova Scotia ) from March 1 to March 8, 1981 . [2] The tournament was held for the 52nd time. The championship was held for the third time in Nova Scotia, and the third time in Halifax.

The winner received the right to represent Canada (as the “team of Canada”; Eng. Team Canada ) at the 1981 World Cup , which was held in March 1981 in London ( Ontario , Canada ).
The tournament was attended by 12 teams representing the provinces and territories of Canada .
The champion (21st time in the history of the championships) was the team representing the province of Manitoba (for the team headed by skip Kerry Bartnik , this was the 1st victory), who won the final in the final against the team representing the province of Northern Ontario (skip Al Hackner ). Bronze medals were won by the team representing the province of Saskatchewan (Skip Bob Ellert).
Kerry Bartnik at the time of victory in the championship was the youngest skip champion in the history of the men's championship in Canada - he was 22 years old and 4 months old. Subsequently, he once again won the Canadian Championship in 1995 .

Competition Format
At the first, group stage, the teams play among themselves in a circular system in one circle. The three best teams of the group stage go to the second stage, playoffs , where they play according to the incomplete Olympic system : first in the semifinal there are teams that took 2nd and 3rd place in the group stage. The loser in the semi-finals takes the overall 3rd place. In the finals, the winner of the semifinals and the team that took 1st place in the group stage are met.
