Biography
As such, Morbid was founded in Stockholm , Sweden , at the end of 1986. [2] With Per, Ingve “Dead” Olin as the founder and mastermind, the group experienced a change of line-up until the formation of the band from John “John Lennart” Hagström and “TG” on guitars, Jens Näsström on bass and Lars-Joran Petrova on drums. [2] When the “TG” left the band, Uffe Söderlund took over the main guitar. [2] [4] The band recorded their debut demo , December Moon , at the Thunderload Studios in Stockholm on December 5 and 6, 1987. [5]
This record was the only demo with a "classic" line-up, after which Hagström left work, and the founder, Olin, moved to Norway in early 1988 to join the legendary black metal band Mayhem . [6] The remaining members of the group tried to continue working and took photographer John Scarisbrick as the new vocalist. [6] Scarisbrick, by coincidence, lived next to the recording studio “ Sunlight ”, which later received somewhat gloomy fame in death metal circles, [6] and on which the recording artist of the group Entombed [7] and Dismember . Here, in September 1988, the musicians recorded their swan song [8] , a second demo called The Last Supper . [6]
Nevertheless, the group gradually faded away, and its members, Petrov and Söderlund, created their own project, Nihilist , [8] which then turned into Entombed . [9] Näsström then played in the bands Contras and Skull.
In 1989-1990, attempts were made to revive Morbid in the original composition ( Dead , Dr. Schitz and Gehenna), but for some reason the idea remained unrealized. After the death of Dad in 1991, Morbid broke up completely.
Impact
Although Morbid officially released only 2 demos, nevertheless they got a kind of cult status after their breakup, including due to the participation of Olin in the Mayhem group, as well as his suicide in 1991. At the same time, the group members expressed more often negative attitude about such fame. Both demos, a variety of live and rehearsal recordings were later released on vinyl and CD, in the form of official and bootleg releases.
