The album was originally released in LP format by Hotsound Records in 1987 . This spacesynth album was written by Michiel van der Kuy and produced by Erik van Vliet. As a CD album, under the Galaxies label, it was released in 1987 , and later, in 2001 , already under the ZYX Music label .

Future Generation contains rearranges of previously released Laserdance singles: “Power Run”, “Humanoid Invasion” and “Goody's Return”, while the album also contains new tracks. As the first studio album, Future Generation was considered a great success for Spacesynth, selling about 150,000 copies. [1] Michil Van der Koy stated that Future Generation is his favorite Laserdance album [2] .

There are some releases of Future Generation that contain additional material. So the 1987 Galaxies CD edition contains a modified version of the song released the same year, [3] at the same time in the Polish CD release of 1991, under the Snake's Music label, they added separate compositions Laserdance Megamix and “You And Me (Space Mix)” [4] .

In an interview, Mihil van der Köy stated that the material for the Future Generation album was created entirely in his composer’s private recording studio [2] , and that the studio depicted in the photograph inside the album was not a real recording location.
