Geography
Moho Thani Island, located in the Pacific Ocean , is located 17 km southeast of the island of Hiva Oa , 21 km east of the island of Tahuat and 47 km southeast of the island of Fatu Hiva . The nearest mainland, South America , is located at 7300 km [1] .
Moho Thani in shape resembles a crescent moon, in the eastern part of which there is a bay . The length from north to south is 8 km; the maximum width from east to west is about 2 km. 300 m south-east of Moho Thani is the small island of Teriha .
The island is of volcanic origin [1] . The formation of Moho Thani took place in two stages, the last of which is dated about 2 million years ago. The area of the island is 15 km². The highest point located in the southern part reaches 520 m.
History
Before the Europeans arrived, the moi-a-tiu tribe lived in Moho Thani. However, after the appearance of strangers who brought in unknown diseases and frequent encounters with them, a sharp decline in the population was noted, which subsequently moved to the island of Khiva-Oa .
The Spanish explorer Alvaro Mendanya de Neira , who spotted the island in 1595 and named it “San Pedro” in honor of Pedro Fernandez Quiros and Pedro Marini Manrique, became the European discoverer of Moho Thani. In 1774, Moho Thani was rediscovered by the English traveler James Cook . In 1838, the French traveler Jules Cesar Sebastien Dumont Durville swam past the island.
In 1992, the island was declared a reserve [1] .

Administratively, the island belongs to the commune of Khiva-Oa .
Population
Moho Thani is currently uninhabited [1] (2007).
