The winner in each season is determined by direct television voting by means of calls, Internet-voting, SMS messages and iTunes service. The winning member receives a prize of $ 100,000 and a contract with the record label Universal Music Group. At the moment, the project’s winners are 16 vocalists: Javier Colon, Jermain Paul, Cassady Pope , Daniel Bradbury, Tesanne Chin, Josh Kaufman, Craig Wayne Boyd, Sawyer Fredericks, Jordan Smith, Alison Porter , Sundance Head, Chris Blyulyu, Zan Blyu, Chris Blyulyu, Zan Blyu, Chris Blyulyu, Jyann Smith, Jydan Smith, Alison Porter , Sundan Hed, Chris Blyulyu, Zan Blyu Cartelli, Sheveld Shevel and Meiling Jarmon.

The central figures of the project are the four Mentors who form their teams. The original Mentors included: Adam Levin, Sy Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton; in the future, the seventeenth season, the Mentors will be Shalton (all seasons), John Legend (16-17 seasons), Gwen Stefani (7, 9, 12, 17 seasons) and Kelly Clarkson (14-17 seasons). Shakira, Asher, Gwen Stefani, Farrell Williams, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson became other Mentors in different years; Kelsey Ballerini and Bibi Rex were Mentors of the Comeback stage in the 15th and 16th seasons.

Format

In December 2010, NBC leadership announced a project called “The Voice of America” as an adaptation of the original Dutch format “The Voice of Holland” . However, a little later the name was shortened, just “The Voice” (the name Voice of America was already used by the US government for the foreign broadcasting network). In each season, the winner receives $ 100,000 and a contract with the record label 'Universal Republic Records' (1-2 season) or 'Universal Music Group' (from season 3).

Project Phases

Blind listening

Each season begins with a stage of Blind auditions, during which the mentors form their teams. The size of each mentor’s team is limited: 8 participants in the 1st season, 12 participants in the 2nd season and 4-15 seasons, 16 participants in the 3rd season. During the performance of the song by the participant, the mentors are positioned in front of the stage in the chairs with their backs to the performer, thus hearing his voice, but not seeing him. Any of the mentors during the performance can press the button "I WANT YOU" ("I choose you"), meaning that the mentor is ready to accept this participant in his team - then his chair turns to face the participant. If the selection button is pressed by two or more mentors, the participant has the right to choose any of them. If none of the mentors has pressed the selection button during the performance of the number, the participant leaves the show. In the 14th season, a new element was added to the stage - “Block”, which gives each mentor the right to block any other (which will not allow the participant to choose the team of the blocked mentor), but only once per season.

Fights

Each mentor breaks his team into several duets. According to the results of the performance, the mentor chooses who in this duet leaves the show. In each season, mentors invite celebrity performers as advisers to help them prepare for duets. From the 3rd season, each mentor has the “right to rescue” of the participant, who is eliminated at this stage from the team of another mentor. Each mentor can “save” only two participants per stage.

Knockouts

The stage was introduced in the 3rd season. Each mentor splits his team into several pairs, in each of which participants will perform a solo song. The vocalists themselves choose songs for their performance, but continue to receive help and advice from their mentors. After the performance of both participants in the pair, the mentor decides which of them will pass on. Starting with the 5th season, each mentor can “save” one retired vocalist from another team. And also, starting from the 14th season, each mentor received the right to “rescue” one retiring member from his team. (But if it happens that both the mentor of this participant and the other / other mentors press the rescue buttons, this singer will be able to choose in whose team to continue participating in the project).

Fights Round 2

The stage was introduced in the 6th season instead of “Knockouts”. The rules of the stage were absolutely similar to the rules of “Knockouts”, except that at this stage one famous performer joined the teams of all four mentors to help prepare for the performances. This rule was transferred to “Knockouts”, starting from the 7th season, when they replaced the second round of “Fights”.

Live broadcasts

At this stage, each vocalist performs on weekly live broadcasts, after each of which the circle of candidates for victory in the project is narrowed. The following rules were valid for 1-2 seasons. In early live broadcasts, a mentor could save one participant who did not pass on as a result of the audience voting. In the 2nd season, such participants got a “second chance” and performed with another solo song. But in the semifinals, the voices of the mentor and the audience were equal (100% each). One participant from the team of each tutor passed to the finals, where only the audience decided the fate of the vocalists. However, in the 3rd season, the rules of live broadcasts have seriously changed. The “inter-command framework” is removed, and each participant is now fighting for himself. No mentor is guaranteed representation of his team in the final by at least one vocalist. Only the audience decides the fate of the contestants.

Comeback

In the 15th season, a new special stage “Comeback” was introduced, exclusive for viewing in the mobile application “The Voice” , on the project’s YouTube channel, on the pages of the show on social networks Facebook, Twitter, on The Voice channel on Instagram TV and on the official website of the project NBC.com. [2] Initially (in the 15th season), the specially invited fifth Mentor selected six vocalists who did not pass the “Blind auditions” stage, but then the rules were modified, and the “Comeback” stage proceeds as follows.

Beginning with the 16th season, the fifth Mentor first selects six vocalists who have not passed Blind auditions (as in the 15th season). Then, in the Fights round, the Mentor breaks his six up into three pairs, in each of which the participant performs the song solo; after two speeches, the Mentor decides who of the pair passes on (after the Fights, this team has three participants).

Before the knockout round, the fifth Mentor selects an additional three vocalists who retired in the main part of the project during the “Fights” stage. The newly formed six of participants Mentor once again splits into three pairs, each of which is followed by only one vocalist (after the Knockout round there are three members in this team again).

In the semifinal round, each of the three remaining participants performs one song solo, two vocalists pass on. By the end of the final round of the Comeback stage, there will be one vocalist in the team of the fifth Mentor, who will be joined by another participant who was eliminated in the main part of the project at the Cross Fights stage. These two vocalists will have the opportunity to perform in the main part of the project, live on the “Playoffs” stage and compete for one spot in the Top 13.
