Biography

In 1929 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory with A. V. Alexandrov (choral conducting), then, in 1929-1931, he studied at the graduate school at HM Danilin . He also studied theoretical subjects with B. L. Yavorsky and MM Ippolitov-Ivanov . Since 1918, independent pedagogical work began. At first he was the head of the music studio at the factory club. From 1920, he taught at the Krasnaya Presnya College of Music, and from 1930-1944, at the Moscow Conservatory: from 1939, professor, from 1936-1940, dean, from 1941-1943, head of the department of choral conducting, and in 1942 —1944 - Deputy Director). In 1935-1936 - the artistic director of the chapel of the Moscow Philharmonic . In 1941-1942 - the artistic director of the choir of the Ukrainian Radio Committee. Since 1945 - professor and head of the department of choral conducting of the Leningrad Conservatory , and at the same time, since 1944 - artistic director and teacher of the choral school at the Leningrad Academic Chapel named after M.I. Glinka . Among the students: K. B. Bird , V. G. Sokolov , A. S. Lensky , G. M. Sandler , Yu. M. Slavnitsky , S. G. Eidinov and others.

Author of arrangements and transpositions of various works for the a cappella choir, (“Mountain Peaks” by Rubinstein , “Dreams” by Borodin and others).
