Biography

After graduating from the Chisinau gymnasium, he entered the Richelieu Lyceum and since 1865 studied at the Natural Sciences Department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the newly opened Imperial Novorossiysk University [1] , which he graduated with a Ph.D. in natural sciences in 1870. Then, until 1872, he studied agricultural sciences, and especially sheep breeding and wool studies, at the Prussian Agricultural Academy of Proskau ( Silesia ). After returning to Russia since 1873, he was the head of the farms of sheep farmers-landowners Falz-Feynov. In 1876, he temporarily served as director of the Zemstvo Agricultural School in Kherson . In Odessa, he gave public lectures on wool research. He was a member of the Society of Naturalists at the Novorossiysk University

I. G. Podoba is considered one of the first who began to breed in Russia a very useful oilseed plant, Lallemantia (Lallemantia ibirica), and from legumes - soy (Soya hispida), Dzhugaru , etc. On behalf of the Imperial Free Economic Society, he performed a microscopic study of fineness merino wool, tested the size of the twists of merino wool, strength and its degree of elongation. In 1881, the results of his research “Tonina of Merino Wool. Microscopic examination of I. G. Podoba. ”(Kherson: Free Economic Society, 1881) was published in Russian and German and the author was awarded a large gold medal of the Free Economic Society.

He was the director of the seven-class commercial school in Mogilev-Podolsky , as well as the director and teacher of law at the commercial school.

Publications

In 1885, Podoba, as a member of the commission for studying the causes of stagnation in the grain trade, presented a report entitled “Our Position in the International Market for the Sale of Wool, Bread and Livestock” (St. Petersburg: type “Society. Benefits”, 1885).
