Rudy Danens ( Dutch: Rudy Dhaenens ; April 10, 1961 , Deinze , Belgium - April 6, 1998 , Aalst , Belgium ) - Belgian professional road racing cyclist in 1983-1992. The world champion in the group race among professionals ( 1990 ). Belgian Athlete of the Year (1990).

Career
He began his career as a professional cyclist in 1983 at the Euroshop-Splendor cycling team.
In 1986 he became the winner at the 11th stage of the Tour de France , held between Poitiers and Bordeaux , the winner of the stage at the Tour of Luxembourg , the second to Paris - Roubaix .
The peak of the career of the Belgian cyclist was the 1990 bike season. He was in the top ten on the classics - Ghent - Wevelgem , Paris - Roubaix , Liege — Bastogne — Liege , Tour of Flanders . The crown of the bike season was the victory in the group race of the World Road Cycling Championship , which took place in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya . Ryudi Danens was ahead of his compatriot Dirk De Wolf and Italian Gianni Bugno at the finish.
Shortly after the start of the 1992 bicycle season , he ended his career due to serious heart problems, thereby giving a new foundation to the belief in the “ curse of the rainbow T-shirt ”.
Tragically died in 1998 . Ryudy Danens was in the car as a co-commentator on the Eurosport sports channel on the Tour of Flanders , when a car accident happened shortly before the finish of the bike race. Seriously injured, Danens died the day after the accident, at the age of 36 years [1] .
In memory of the cyclist from 1999 to 2007 in the Belgian commune Nevel , province of East Flanders , a one-day cycling race of the Grand Prix of Ryudy Danens was held .
