Life
Beatrice was born in Coimbra around 1347/51. Beatrice's right to be considered the infante (princess) of Portugal is controversial. Some historians consider her to be the natural daughter of Pedra I , so she could never bear the title of Portuguese Infanta. Others claim that the murder of Ines de Castro was ordered by the father of Pedro, King Afonso IV ; after accession to the throne, the prince admitted that he secretly married Ines, and therefore she was the rightful queen of Portugal.
Beatrice became Countess of Alburkerke when she married Sancho Alfonso, 1st Earl of Alburkerke in 1373. They had two children:
- Don Fernando Sanchez, 2nd Earl of Alburkerke
- Dona Eleanor Urraca , who married Ferdinand I of Aragon
Beatrice died in 1381.
