"Nirja" ( eng. Neerja ) - Indian film-biography of 2016 in Hindi, directed by Rama Madhwani , written by Seivun Cuadras and Sanyukta Chawla. The picture was produced by Atula Kasbekar 's Bling Unplugged along with Fox Star Studios . The main role was played by Sonam Kapoor , the supporting roles - Shabana Azmi , Yogendra Tiku and Shekhar Ravdzhiani .

The plot focuses on the real story of the Libyan- backed Abu Nidal organization of Flight 73 of the Pan Am airline to Karachi ( Pakistan ) on September 5, 1986. The story is shown from the point of view of the senior flight attendant, Nirji Bhanot , who frustrated the hijacking attempt, alerting the pilots, thereby preventing the aircraft from rising into the air. She herself died trying to save the passengers.
The creation of the film began in September 2014, when Kasbekar signed a contract with Ram Madhwani and Sonam Kapoor to participate in the film [1] . Sayvun Cuadras and Sanukta Chawla began working on the script, the main shooting took place in Mumbai . The film used the music of Vishal Khurana with lyrics written by Prasun Joshi [2] . The picture was released on February 19, 2016 and received a positive reception from critics who marked the game Sonam Kapoor. Nirjah has become one of the highest grossing Bollywood films with a woman as the main character.
The film received a number of awards at various Bollywood awards, where Kapoor and Madhvani's direction were highlighted. Nirjah won two awards at the 64th National Film Awards : Best Hindi Feature Film and Special Mention (awarded to Kapoor). At the 62nd Filmfare Film Awards, the film collected five awards, including “Best Film According to Critics , ” “Best Female Role According to Critics” (Kapoor) and “Best Supporting Female Role” (Azmi) [3] .
Content
Story
After returning from Qatar , having left her husband, Nirja, working as a flight attendant, participates in a fun family holiday, and the next day she goes on her next flight. The plane lands in Pakistani Karachi, where it is captured by terrorists. Nirja manages to warn pilots who, according to the instructions, hastily leave the plane. Passengers remain held hostage by terrorists, who are now unable to take off and demand to provide them with pilots.

Criticism
Nirja received positive reviews from critics from around the world [4] [5] . Manjusha Radhakrishan from Gulf News rated the film for 4 out of 5 stars; she criticized the lack of depth in the characters of the terrorists and the weak points in the second half of the picture, noting a strong climax compensating for these shortcomings [6] . Sonali Kokra noted the work of the director in The National , who managed to convey the depressing situation and the horror of the hostages through the limited space of the aircraft cabin [7] .
