Kamain is an island in the Chulyshman River Delta, formed when the latter flows into Lake Teletskoye [1] . The largest island of the lake and the entire Altai Republic. The area of the island is significant due to fluctuations in the water level in the river and in the lake. Lies between the main channel and the Chebachya channel. Administratively, it includes the Chelushmansky rural settlement ( Ulagansky district of the Altai Republic). The nearest settlement is the village of Balykcha , located 9 kilometers upstream of the Chulyshman. You can get to the island itself only by water, although a road has been brought to the opposite bank of the river. The boat journey from Artybash takes 1.5 hours.

Climate
The average annual temperature reaches +7.0 ° C, which is close to the maximum values for Western Siberia [2] , approximately corresponding to the average annual temperature of the forest-steppe strip of the Russian plain between the cities of Kharkov and Saratov . The transition of the average daily air temperature through 0 ° occurs in the spring of March 25, and in the fall - November 1 [3] . Due to the frequent warm fans (the local name is “Verkhovka”) from the Chulyshman valley, the annual amplitude of air temperature fluctuations is relatively small (66 degrees Celsius), which is identical to the annual amplitude in the seaside Kerch , which also indicates a low level of climate continent [3] . Average January temperature: −8.0 ° C; July: +18.0 ° C. The average annual rainfall is small - about 500 mm. Due to the frequent hairdryers blowing up to 150 days a year, the deep-sea Teletskoye Lake rarely freezes and / or irregularly, helping to maintain relatively high air temperatures in winter. The average annual rainfall in Balykce is small: only about 400 mm per year. Most of the year dry, sunny and relatively warm weather prevails, which is especially favorable for gardening and viticulture. Due to the frequent fans blowing up to 150 days a year, there is little snow here and it melts quickly.
Flora and Fauna
In late autumn, during the migration to the south, a large number of waterfowl accumulate near the shores of the lake: swans, geese, ducks. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Russian ornithologist G. E. Johannsen noted the presence of pink flamingos here [4] . The ichthyofauna is represented by dace , perch , and pike . Due to the relatively mild (for Western Siberia) temperate continental climate, softened by water and frequent hair dryers , the island is covered with dense deciduous forest and berry bushes. At the beginning of the 20th century, the island was successfully acclimatized with apple , pear , gooseberries , currants , cultivated grapes , walnuts , apricots . Kamain became an oasis of Siberian horticulture, from which garden crops began to spread to other regions of Altai [5] . Horses, cows and sheep are kept.
Population
Telengits and Russians live on the island [6] . The permanent population as of 2017 was 2 people, however, it increases many times in the summer due to the influx of tourists and service personnel from Russia and the CIS countries. A rather diverse tourist infrastructure has been created on the island and the surrounding shores of the lake [7] .
Traveler Essays
The Russian geographer and botanist BB Sapozhnikov described the views of the lake that open from the island [4] :
| “Take a look north here!” A wide blue ribbon, silvering in the sun, compressed by steep giants, goes into the distance, and there, behind the blue capes that cut into the lake from both banks, it is lost in a foggy haze. ” |
