Biography
Tikhon Filatyev was born in the family of Yaroslavl icon painter Ivan Filatyev . After the death of his father, which followed 5 ( 15 ) September 1678 , he was determined in his place in the Armory. Sources report that “ he, Tikhonko, and with his father, many of the great sovereign icon-painting cases (happened). And according to the testimony of icon painters Simon Ushakov with the goods, the icon art he writes, Tikhonko, his father’s skill will be better and henceforth will be durable to the sovereign affairs ”.
From the mid-1680s, Filatyev actively collaborated with other masters of the Armory. In 1684 or 1686, he participated in the creation of a series of icons for the Smolensk Cathedral of the Novodevichy Monastery , which was assigned to an artel of artists led by Fedor Zubov ; in March 1688, together with Nikifor Bovykin, he wrote three icons for Princess Marfa Alekseevna ; a few months later, in collaboration with Mikhail Milyutin and Spiridon Grigoriev, he worked in the cathedral church of the Petrovsky monastery ; in 1694–1695, together with his “comrades,” he created a number of icons for the church of Sergius the Miracle-worker of the same monastery, as well as for the church of the Martyr Natalia, which is in Myasnitskaya. In addition, in 1686, on request of the boyar Peter Vasilyevich Bolshoy Sheremetev, the master wrote the icons “John the Merciful”, “Tikhon the Wonderworker” and “Anastasia the Martyr” in the hall to the princess Ekaterina Alekseevna .
In 1700, Filatyev restored the Trinity icon of the 14th century in the Assumption Cathedral in Moscow, after which he took part in the restoration work carried out in the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin on the Hills . In July 1704, the Ambassadorial Order was sent with the task of sketching the emblems of the “All-Russian State” (by the order of Peter I these emblems were to be depicted on the gate of the ceichgau). In subsequent years, the artist painted icons for the churches of the Archangel Michael in Bronnitsy (1703) and Ovchinniki (1715), participated in the painting of the Yaroslavl church of Nikola in Melenki (1705-1707) and in the restoration work in the Cathedral of the Annunciation (1708). The last mention of Tikhon Filatiev refers to 1731.
